Banyumas Work Art

Banyumas Work Art,- Traditional art narrowly Javanese means artwork created and originated from Java Island, it is divided into three major groups in the cultural roots of Javanese art. There are Banyumasan, Central Java, and East Java. Those major groups of art work dominates Javanese art although it is different with the Java sub-tribe such Yogyakarta included to Central Java but Banyumasan although the place is in Central Java but it has specific artwork.

Banyumasan culture is enriched by the inclusion of cultural styles global Java,  Mataram Yogya-Solo and East Java Sunda/Sundanese/Parahiyangan. Banyumasan culture is born from traditional art forms are rather different as characterised Banyumasan like Ebeg, Lengger-calung, Angguk, Banyumasan gagrag shadow puppets, musical Banyumasan, Begalan and others.

Term of Ebeg dance come from dabag or debeg dancing; woven bamboo shaped coloured black or white horse and given a rattle. Te Dancers wearing batik cloth coated trousers knee and dark glasses, wearing a crown and sumping ears dancing around the area. This type of folk dance is developed in Banyumas region. Another variant of this art knowing as Kuda Lumping in West Java, while in Central Java like Yogyakarta it is called jathilan.


Lengger-Calung

The Traditional art Lengger-calung grows and flourishs in Banyumas region. Lengger-Calung consists of Lengger (dancer) and Calung (bamboo gamelan/Javanese traditional music instrument). The movement of Lengger-Calung is very dynamic and agile dance to tradihe rhythm of Calung. Lengger dancers are female while the male dancers are just as clown complement serves to enliven the atmosphere, clowns usually present in the middle of the show.
Lengger dancing consist of 2 to 4 dancer who dress in away seems very attractive completed sanggul or hair bun decorated on the dancer head. Besides that sampur or shawl (selendang in Javanese language) draped on the shoulders, wearing a cloth / jarit and stagen. Lengger dancers dance to the rhythm of a typical Banyumasan which agile and dynamic dominated by hip movement so it looks very cute.

Lengger-Calung gamelan equipment consists of a xylophone or Gambang Barung, dhendhem, kenong and gongs are all made of bamboo wulung (black), while the drums the same as a regular Javanese drum. The Dancing of  Lengger-Calung accomplished vocalist calung known as Sinden. One group requires minimal calung 7 members consisting of the gamelan and dancers/ Lengger.

Banyumasan Gagrag Puppet
Banyumas Pupet Show generally similar as the other pupet in Java Island the first difference is on in nature puppet movement. It is rather difference because Master of Puppet's hand movement is relatively closed by the puppet itself. While the language of Banyumas Gagrag Puppet is similar with other Javanese language like usually puppet performance. So it is similar with Yogya-Solo style puppet performance but the character rather different because, it is blended well in terms of story setting, mysticism.


The next distinct of Banyumas Gagrag Puppet is on the language spoken by the Banyumasan clown that bring some fresh joke. Usually the names of clown in generally puppet is the same but for it is different. Several different names such as Bagong figures (Solo) into Bawor or Carub. According to the model Yogya-Solo, Bagong is the youngest son of Ki Semar, in Banyumas version became the oldest child. Bawor figure is the mascot of Banyumas. The main characteristic of the shadow play Gagrag Banyumasan is, the story of the lives of ordinary people who are so strong and master of puppet or Ki Dalang always show the reality of the dynamics of life in the community.
